Review: Rab Neutrino Endurance Jacket

Proof that Rab clothing performs in the toughest environments!

Rab Neutrino Endurance Down Jacket.

RAB says:
The Neutrino Endurance is a lightweight, fully featured and very warm down jacket designed primarily for climbing and mountain use.
The Neutrino Endurance has become the benchmark down jacket for modern mountaineering and lightweight ascents. The Pertex®Endurance outer provides durable protection against storm and spindrift while retaining minimal weight and packsize. High lofting is provided by the 225g of 800 fill (L) pure European goose down.
The Neutrino Endurance is one of those jackets that just does everything you need it to - a firm favourite amongst all our sponsored athletes and an ideal piece for UK and Alpine winter conditions. Just as much at home on a hill walk in the Peak District as it is on a Himalayan Peak. Often found at winter fell race finish lines or on your 'spotter' when going for the crux on a new boulder problem.

Neil says:
For our trip to The Himalaya we were looking for performance clothing suitable for high altitude Winter trekking. Having used a number of Rab items over the years I was fully aware of the capability of their kit. In addition to that Rab are a local manufacturer and, like most people, if I can support local businesses then I will.
Rab are very well known in the outdoor community as a high-end producer of performance clothing.

The Neutrino Endurance Jacket didn't let us down; and we tested in some pretty harsh conditions. Air temperatures below -15c, windchill's in excess of -30c, spindrift, snow, and high winds were taken in our stride. In fact I can honestly say had it not been for this jacket I would not have gotten over the Thorong La pass during the epic stage 9 of The Yak Attack MTB Stage Race. It really is that good.
We spent 3 days above 5000m in February and the temperature barely rose to -10c on a good day and plummeted considerably in the evenings.
Dave, Wilco, and I all used one and we were all in agreement about it's capability.
The jacket is generously padded and has all the necessary features required without going overboard with fussy extras.
The generously sized hip pockets were easily accessible even when wearing a pack and the internal pocket is useful for stashing liner gloves, snacks etc.
The adjustable velcro cuffs, drawcord hem, and wired peak are standard issue on this type of jacket and they were a godsend.
The only slight criticism for me was a little stiffness in the front zip when engaging the zippers but I'm sure this will give a little over time.
The fit is regular and I found it perfectly snug without restricting movement.
I've also used it regularly at home in the UK during winter cold snaps and I wouldn't be without it. It looks smart on the hills and smart in town. A lovely looking item.
It now comes in a wider range of colours too.

The perfect winter jacket for cold conditions. I can't recommend this jacket highly enough. 10/10.

The Rab Neutrino Endurance Jacket is priced at a competitive £240rrp and for a jacket of this standard it's worth every penny. Seriously good value for money.

We were very kindly supported by Rab for our trip and they provided us with a jacket each and an Ascent 700 sleeping bag. This would not however prejudice my opinion in any way because I would gladly buy one with my own money without hesitation. Our heartfelt thanks go to Dan Thompson for his assistance and advice.
