Alpkit - Woodsmoke Shirt - Review.

If you are a mountainbiker, skateboarder, snowboarder, or even a general outdoorist, you may well own a version of the ubiquitous chequered flannel shirt - it's very much a part of the look.
I recently purchased one such example from Alpkit.com
It has quickly proved to be one of my favourite things. I have been out in it, I have cycled in it, and I have, appropriately, chopped up some wood in it.

As with everything Alpkit it is made with a little bit of love and a particular attention to detail.
It's slightly stretchy, lovely and soft to wear, and has poppers instead of silly buttons - I like poppers, they save me time and are a bit cool.
I suppose for the purposes of a review I should mention some blurb. Alpkit say it's:

"The most comfortable shirt you’ve ever owned: a high-wicking, quick-drying, odour resistant, temperature-regulating shirt for an active mountain lifestyle"

And there you have it, in a nutshell.
They also say this:

"Woodsmoke is an innovation in mountain shirts. Made from ThermoTech® polyester with hollow core fibres that trap more air to give you more insulation, it has a higher warmth-to-weight ratio than normal Polyester, making it an ideal mid layer.
The brushed fabric is as comfortable as your favourite cotton shirt, but wicks moisture away from your skin and dries quickly. Along with the snap front closure for easy venting, this makes the Woodsmoke ideal for faster paced days outdoors, whether you’re hiking, biking, or climbing.
Woodsmoke’s stretchy brushed flannel fabric moves with you and feels incredibly soft on your skin. The articulated fit gives great freedom of movement across the shoulders, making it ideal for anything from riding until you fall upon camp for the night, to stretching for that elusive hold on your bouldering project. Chest pockets with secure snap closure are ideal for keeping your valuables safe.
The Woodsmoke shirt is treated with Polygiene odour control technology, so you can wear it all week in the Alpine summertime then wear it on the plane home too without ruffling any feathers.
THERMOTECH®
ThermoTech® is a polyester fibre engineered to keep you warm and comfy from when you’re slogging up that Alpine pass to when you’re making you’re way back down again. Hollow fibres trap body heat to keep you warm and wick moisture away from the skin to keep you dry and comfortable"

That's saved me having to write all that stuff.
Although I have only had mine for a few weeks I have given it considerable hammer and I'm now confident that it will be a resilient and trusted friend for a long time to come. It's tough, it's washes well, and comes in three fabulous colours - Red, blue, and green - or as Alpkit have christened them Brick, Reef, and Rocket (I have the red one, and I do look fabulous in it).
As always they do a womens specific cut, in the same colour range, in sizes 8-16. You can go out with that classic His & hers look if that's your bag (Your life - Your rules; you rebels).

It's a very, very fabulous thing indeed. So much so that I will be purchasing the other two colours in the range very soon ( I want the green one specially for when I'm down the wood pretending to be a lumberjack).
It retails at a competitive £59.00, comes with their marvellous Alpine Bond Guarantee, excellent customer service, and is lovingly made with a social conscience.
